July 20, 2009 President Obama is urging Congress to empower an independent entity to set Medicare reimbursement rates, either by bolstering the role of MedPAC or by creating a new advisory council. Last Friday, the White House sent a legislative proposal to Congress to create a new entity that would have the authority to make recommendations to the president on annual Medicare payment rates and other program changes. The issue was detailed in a Washington Post article.
